Highlights of Cape Town

Cape Town

Cape Town

This city has had a tumultuous past with its apartheid laws causing world exclusion both economically and socially. However that is the past. The new generation embraces equality and a thirst for high standards of living.

Overlooked by Table Mountain you can get there by a slow aerial cable car. The views are amazing, spreading right across Cape Town city and its harbour. Indeed this city has a port along one of the most busiest trade routes in the world.

And off the coast lies Robben Island. Famous as a prison where Nelson Mandela was held for 27 years. His release saw the end to apartheid and a new world leader was born. Nowadays the prison on Robben Island is a museum.

Looking for more spectacular views? Then head to Sea Point. Drop by the lifestyle Mojo Mall. Open  8 am to 11 pm every day of the week, you can find everything here. Besides the live entertainment, there are designer stalls, food stalls, free wifi, plenty of seating and it’s basically the place to be. In addition there is a weekend market. Similarly check out the Victoria and Albert Waterfront.

What stands out here is the level of service and quality of food. Check out the Food Lovers Market in the Icon Building in Cape Town Central. In the same area you can find fine dining Asian style at Beluga Restaurant and African style at Mzansi. On the other hand if you prefer European with vegan options then try the Reverie Social Table. Try any recommended restaurant and you won’t be disappointed.

Being in Africa, the game reserves are within reach. You may have to go further afield to experience the big five but the Aquila Game Reserve is nearby. One advantage of going to a game reserve in this area is that you do not require yellow fever innoculations. Not the case if you want to go to the Serengeti in the east of the country.

Another must do is a visit to the wine area. Ample opportunities exist to go wine tasting. Moreover this region is dotted by enchanting small towns such as Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl. You can do wine tasting to choose your wine for a sumptuous meal. In recent years they have changed the name to “the Spice Route”.

Here in Cape Town there are lots of things to do and your choices are amplified when you explore the surrounding region. The best thing to do is to explore the city in the company of a Holiday Houseboy who can really show you the true South Africa.
