Highlights of  Managua

Managua

Managua, which is on the south shore of Lake Managua, is the capital city of Nicaragua. Its cathedral, which is a shell since the 1972 earthquake, is on the Plaza of the Revolution.

Managua manufactures a variety of small products, including processed meat, furniture, metal, and textiles. In addition to this, coffee and cotton are the principal crops grown in the agricultural lands.

Managua has many places of interest, such as Puerto Salvador Allende. This is an anchor point of a small cruise ship that sails the lake. Here there are restaurants for all tastes. Along with bars, nightclubs and recreation areas for all ages. The Paseo Xolotlán is a boardwalk with incredible views of the lake.

There are three important natural reserves

The Chiltepe Peninsula, with its two crater lagoons. The El Chocoyero-El Brujo Reserve, with its beautiful waterfalls and the Montibelli Private Reserve which is ideal for bird watching.

Other things to do include visiting the Volcano Mombacho. Or even a trip to Zopango Island. Moreover you should not discount a trip over to visit Costa Rica. Its border is at the other end of Lake Cocibolca. Albeit only 390 kms from Granada to San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital. A journey of 6 hrs 20 mins.

Cuisine

Nicaraguan food consists of corn, beans, plantains, yucca, and peppers. A characteristic Nicaraguan meal that you can try might include a meat like chicken, pork, or fresh seafood from Nicaragua’s expansive coasts. As well as deep-fried plantains, rice, and beans known as gallo pinto and a cabbage salad.

Why not visit Granada as well?

Granada is the oldest city on the continent. Also the most developed tourist destination in Nicaragua. The city’s main plaza is called Central Park. Here you will find the colourful, neoclassical facade of the Cathedral of Granada. In addition, the Centro Cultural Convento San Francisco nearby is famous for its displays of pre-Columbian statues.
