Kitale Museum was the first domestic museum in Kenya. Its original name was Stoneham Museum. Derived from the name of its founder. An amateur naturalist called Lieutenant Colonel Hugh Stoneham. His collection included insects, animals and a whole range of books from 1894. The museum opened in 1924. Sadly Mr. Stoneham died in 1966.

Another interesting place is Fort Jesus built between 1593 and 1596. By order of King Philip II of Spain and I of Portugal. To guard the Old Port of Mombasa. UNESCO lists Fort Jesus as a World Heritage site.

Head to the financial district of Mombasa and you will find the distinctive Moi Avenue. Originally its name was Kilindini Road. However it was later changed in recognition of Kenya’s second President, Daniel Arap Moi. Huge tusk like objects adorn the avenue under which the traffic flows.

Alternatively escape the traffic and visit Haller Park. Its natural beauty amazes all its visitors. Set in Bamburi, Mombasa, on the Kenyan coast. Although originally a quarry wasteland, it has taken on a facelift. It is now an ecological area with a Nature Trail. Here you will find various animal species such as hippos, giraffes, buffalos, zebras, waterbucks to mention a few. In addition, if you can spot them there are the flighty bushbuck, suni and duiker.

Albeit many come to Mombasa to enjoy the beach. Diani Beach is one such famous beach resort.  On the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya. Located 30 kilometres south of Mombasa, in the nearby Kwale County. Not surprisingly, it has been voted Africa’s leading beach destination for the third consecutive time since 2015.

Perhaps you should visit the Marine National Park and Reserve. This is a marine park and national reserve which is located on the coast near tourist areas. Moreover this marine park is a nice spot for snorkeling and diving. It is a major tourist attraction among other marine parks in Kenya.
